Thanksgiving is this week on Thursday. I have been reflecting on all of my blessings that I am thankful for. Even as I reflected, The president of my church, our prophet Russell M. Nelson gave a message of hope that included a prescription to heal our souls. President Nelson is a medical doctor. His prescription was for us to flood social media for seven days with things we were thankful for. He assured us that if we did so we would feel better. I accepted this challenge and am posting on facebook this week how grateful I am for my family, my parents, my friends, my dog Dobby, my power wheelchair, my sewing machine, and above all, the atonement of Jesus Christ. My broken body will be healed because of the atonement. I am midway through the challenge and already feel so much better! It is too easy to feel down with all of the negative things going on in the world.
If I am looking hard enough, I can even say I am grateful for some of the experiences cancer has brought me. I am more appreciative of my blessings, the people in my life. I have the gift of time to spend however I want. All of the things that used to keep me busy are gone now that I am disabled. I would have never written a memoir without cancer. I am more sensitive and appreciative of Christ’s atonement and how it affects me. And I rejoice. Gratitude is the cure! Here is the link to President Nelson’s message. I recommend everyone watch it no matter what your faith is. It will give you hope. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
