Quilts for grandkids I may never meet.
I received and gave a precious gift Saturday! Two years ago, the first thing I decided I wanted to do after my cancer diagnosis was to make two quilts (one quilt each for both of my kids for their kids). The quilts would be for the grandchildren I may never meet. It took help from family and dear friends to finish them. My daughter decided on the monster theme and found the monster pics online. We sketched out the designs on graph paper, cut the material for the blocks and started appliquéing them using Wonder Under. Unfortunately, over the months and months of surgeries and after experiencing brain tumors, the work came to a halt. My sister in law took the squares home to Las Vegas and finished appliquéing one blanket.
Later, after months and months, I received messages from my friend Kathy Who felt prompted to help me with something. Cathy is a quilter and makes beautiful quilts. After a few messages, I told her I could use help finishing these quilts. She took them and with her quilting friends finished the quilts. She was able to look at the scribbled design plans Christie and I made and make them come to life! They are beautiful, and turned out much better than I could have hoped for!
Service from angel friends and family. This is how you minister.
To me the quilts are an excellent example of service and love. I gave them to my kids Saturday night. My grandson loves it! These quilts will be treasured. In addition, I hope that my kids, grandson, and future grandkids always remember their Grandma Shill loves them. Indeed, I am so filled with love and gratitude to everyone who helped me accomplish this vision I had for the quilts.
